The following mission notes were transcribed from "World War II Reminiscences" by T/Sgt Clayton B. Wall, CFC Gunner of Crew 24. This copy of the mission diary was provided by 1st Lt Milton T. Cummings, Jr. Bombardier, of the crew. The diary was written in Wall's own handwriting - no gramatic or spelling corrections have been made.

Test hop and calibration mission at H.A.A.F. – Herington, Kan
Time: 3:20

April 7, 1945
Left Herington for Mather Field Calif.
Time: 8:10

April 11, 1945
Mather to John Rogers Field at Oahu in the Hawaiian Is.
Time: 10:20

April 13, 1945
John Rogers to Kwajlein 100 rds per gun for next leg.

April 14, 1945
Kwajalein to Eniwetok. This stop was not on the orders but we had trouble with # 3 engine
Time: 2:20

April 22, 1945
Had # 3 engine changed and after test hop we proceeded to North Field on Guam (Destination)
Time: 7:00

April 25, 1945
Calibration hop to check the “Lady” for combat

 
April 27 - 45

# 1 Strike was at Kushira Airfield. Appox. 20 to 25 fighters. Flak was light but was very accurate. Small hole in # 2 engine nacelle. Fighters were dropping quite a few phosphorus bombs. Crew #50 (Gen Andrews) went down right after bombs away. Flying off our right wing (their first mission also)

# 2 April 30, 45
Strike was at Kokubu Airfield Approx 10 to 15 fighters also on Kenfnshue (sic). Flak was light but very accurate – 1 claim and 1 damaged
Miller: 1 claim
Time: 15:30 Bomb Alt: 12,500’



# 3 May 2 – 45
Guam to Iwo Jima for search mission for Crew #26 who went down 4 or 5 days before.
Time: 4:00


# 3 May 3 – 45
Searched for 15:10 – Within 300 miles of Japan – Back to Iwo no luck.
