Continued search for Crew 26 no luck – Flew back to North Field – Guam.

Strike was at Otake’s gasoline and oil refineries. Quite a bit of flak. Both navy (?) and ground were throwing it up. Wasn’t too accurate. Approx. 8 to 10 fighters – some fire!

Test hop before mission to recheck all engines

Incendiary raid on the city of Nagya – very surprised – Flak medium and fairly accurate – App 4 to 5 fighters. After target run I could see smoke 18,000 ft high. Hit North section of town.

# 7 May 16 – 45
Night incen raid of Nagoya South part of town and dock area the aiming pt (Radar run) Only two fighters to give our positions. No firing – app 14 or 15 searchlights. Did not get caught till after bombs away. To dark to see flak except a few large bursts. Note: Scared as hell

May 19 & 20 –
Each day a replacement crew flew the lady and bombed Rota Is. (Practice) Change of # 4 prop & change # 3 engine – hit pile of rocks while taxing to hard stand. App 8:00

May 23 – 1945
Test hop to slow time # 3 engine for next mission

# 8 May 23 – 1945
bombed Tokyo with 40 500# incendiaries. (Night strike at North side of city). Quite a bit of flak but we were not hit. About 25 to 30 lights caught us app 45 to 60 seconds before bombs away. Stayed with us till we left the target area. Saw only 2 to 4 night fighters one fire ball –
bomb away @ 333 – 24th
(a lot of small weapons fire)
(Had to feather # 3 engine on the last 30 to 40 miles to base) high fuel pressure
