Popcorn, Napalm and the Weather
by Marvin Demanzuk, Radar Observer, P2

This is a view of the image on the Radar Screen at the end of a bomb run on Osaka. (No photos of the Tokyo run are available.) The bombs have been released and are on their way to target. The screen is at extreme zoom position. Range circle is beyond the target and not visible in the display.

Below shows the plan for the Tokyo bomb run is portrayed. The pie shaped segment will appear on the radar screen. The screen will be in sector scan and zoom format to sharpen detail. The track to target is NNW. The aiming point is a tip of land on the shoreline. At Position 1, the aircraft is at a sighting angle of 70 degrees to target and rate motor on the Norden Bomb Sight is activated. There will be two checks on rate of closure to target at Positions 2 and 3. Bombs Away at Position 4.
