June 19 – 45 Night incendiary raid on Shizuoka on
Honshu – 85 miles south of Tokyo
40 – 500#’s Bombing alt 9,200’ –
Bombs away at 3:17 the 20th. Only a few bursts of ack-ack
but a quite a bit of ground automatic weapons fire. Otherwise
a milk run. Smoke was at 20,000’ when we were over
target.

# 16 June 22 – 45 Hit aircraft factory at Tamashima
– Southern Honshu

– 500# G.P.’s Bombing alt 15,000’ &
bombs away at 10:10 – Flak light and inaccurate
– aiming for sqdn behind us. One nick made one pass
– two or phosphorous bombs at assembly area.
Time: 15:20
#17 June 26 – 45 Target for this day was Nagoya
(ordnance, arms & aircraft factories)
22 – 500# G.P.’s bombing alt 18,000 Bombs
away 10:15 – Eight to ten fighters at assembly pt.
All together app 15 – Flak was not heavy and not
light – meager. But this was the most accurate I
have seen it yet. By the hand of God the lady came out
unscratched. One bomb hung – had to kick it out
after the target run.

Test hop to slow time # 4 engines – Engine change
after last mission – Time: 2:05 1-A form (1:05)
#18 June 29 - 45 Target was urban section
of Nobeoka
Bomb load was 194 liquid fire bombs. No flak and no fighters.
Smoke was approx. 15,000’ when we left the target
– A real milk run Time: 14:50 Bombing Alt: 11,000’

19 July 1 – 45 Night incendiary Raid on Shimonoseki
40 – 500# bombs. Bombs away at 02:48 the 2nd –
Bombing alt. 14,200’ Flak meager but not accurate
cause over the target was 8/10 undercast – quite
a bit of small arms fire. No fighters.
Time: 17:40 – Had to land at Iwo Jima for more fuel
to make it back to base. – Time: 17:40
July 3 – 45 Strike was to be a fire raid on Takushima
on Shikoku
Lost # 2 engine right after we were airborne. Salvoed
bombs in ocean. Had to circle quite a while to loose weight.
Time: 2:20 – Second time to abort.
