2nd Lt Robert J. Helhorst
Pilot

Robert J. Helhorst was born Oct. 12, 1923 in Grand Rapids, MI, the son of Harry and Jennie (Koorman) Helhorst.

A resident of Kent County, Michigan, he enlisted in the Reserves, Nov 4, 1942. From January 1943 to March 1946, he served as a B-29 and was stationed at Guam's North Field, flying missions over Japan.

He attended Grand Rapids Junior College and Whittenberg College.

He married Gladys E. Moore, March 14, 1945 in Salina, KS prior to leaving for overseas. They have 2 daughter, Judy and Patti and one son, James; three grandchildren, Jennifer, Lauren and Audri.

He retired in 1987, from St. Joesph Hospital and Health Care Center after 25 years of service as Business Manager. He was a member of the Kokomo Chamber of Commerce, Kokomo Credit Association, Green Acres Golf Course and the Hospital Financial Management Association.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed time spent with friends at Green Acres Golf Course.

Robert J. Helhorst took his Flinal Flight, 27 July 2003.
He is buried in Sunset Memorial Garden Cemetery.
