| The
Officer's club was built by the officer flight crew members who
were assigned by crew to wirk on the club when not scheduled for
a mission. It is a "great place" to put the problems
of yesterday behind you and also the problems of tomorrow. The
"opening" was night to remember! It was like being in
civilization again. Most of the "brass" were present
as well as the ladies of the island. It
was rumored after the war, the club would be burned to the ground
immediately after the club's deactivation party when the place
was closed. Military Police were advised of the plan and put
out a perimeter guard. The "Fire Bugs", with a gasoline
refueling truck, were stopped by the MPs 30 feet from the Officer's
club and the "fire bugs" were taken back to their
                  quarters and put to bed.The
next day the officer's club, the equipment and all supplies were
sold to the 29th Bomb Group, who were also based on Guam for one
dollar. A report was submitted that officially cleared the books
with the auditors. So many great memories of it. source: Joe Semanek, Airplane
