Gordon
graduated from high school in Rockham, S.D. He enrolled
in the Civilian Conservation Camp (CCC) in 1938.
On
June 9, 1939, he married Lois Cooper in Watertown,
S.D. They lived in Miranda, S.D, until March 24, 1943,
when Gordon was drafted for World War II and served
in the air force until January 5, 1946.
When he returned to Zell, he and Lois farmed until
1969, when they moved to Spearfish, SD. In 1972, Gordon
was appointed to the Lawrence County Weed Board Supervisor's
position, which he held until 1987.
He
and Lois enjoyed their retirement years being "snowbirds",
living in Spearfish in the summer and traveling in
their motor home during the winter.
Gordon
and his wife Lois have three children: Richard, Judy
and Pam; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Gordon
E. Harr, passed away on April 6, 2004, of an extended
illness at the age of 89, at the David M. Dorsett
Health Care Facility in Spearfish. Family and friends
shared their memories and celebrate Gordon's life
on April 12, 2004; Burial followed at the Black Hills
National Cemetery near Sturgis, with full military
honors provided by American Legion Post #164 &
V.F.W. Post# 5860.
