Lt Col. George M. Bopp
Born January 18, 1918 in Dallas Texas. 

His enlistment date according to Enlistment Records found on National Archives web site was 29 September 1941. He retired after 23 years of service in the Army Air Forces and the USAF at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1964. He not only served in WWII but also in the Korean War and Vietnam War.

During his military career he earned the Purple Heart, the Distinguished Flying Cross with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal.

He and his wife Dorothy were married 30 years. He as 3 sons. 2 daughters, 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

In the years after his retirement from the Air Force, Bopp worked for Sears; While his children were teenagers - Mr. Bopp became a veterans service officer in Bartow, FL.  In his job he helped veterans in the community get medical care and other services.

His wife Dorothy remembers "I'm so proud of him"

George and Dorothy enjoyed playing golf and started a community leaugue.

"He taught me how to play golf, It was something we did together." his wife recalled.

A member of St. Pauls Lutheran, Mr. Bopp was a Sunday School teacher for 10 years and had other responsibilites at the church as well.  "Whatever the church needed, he did it" his wife said.


George M. Bopp died of cancer on 24 April 2004 at his home at the age of 86 yrs old.
