Entered the service 1 September 1942 at Ft Snelling,
Minnesota and separated on 10 December 1945 at Ft Lewis,
Washington; From 29 March 1945 – 9 October 1945
he spent on Guam as radio operator with Crew 28 flying
29 combat missions.
Emerson
(they call him “Em”) 82 yrs old and his
wife Thordis 80 yrs old has 3 children 2 girls and a
boy.
"Our
oldest daughter lives in Long Beach, CA – a real
estate agent and her husband owns a print shop.
Their
second daughter is a teacher in Albuquerque, she’ll
retire next year; her husband a pilot for American Airlines.
Our
son works for a grocery company as Director of Sales
out of Portland Oregon.
We
have 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
One
of our granddaughter’s is married to a Marine.
He’s a Lt Colonel spending a year on Okinawa.
I
have been retired for 20 yrs as of March 1, 2004.
During
WWII I also had two brothers that served in the Army.
One was killed in Belgium by a land-mine.”
During
his WWII service Sollom earned the Distinguished Flying
Cross, Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster (OLC), Good Conduct
Medal, American Theater Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific
Theater Ribbon with bronze service star.
