RACE,
F. Kenneth 82, of Springfield, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday,
June 14, 2005 in The Ohio State University Medical Center. He was born
on January 19, 1923 the son of Harry L. and Hazel M. (Johnson) Race.
He graduated from the Springfield High School Class of 1941 and then
was drafted into the United States Army during WWII, completed officer's
candidate school, became a Lieutenant and flew B-29 bombers over the
Pacific. When returning to Springfield after the war, he went to Wittenberg
on the GI bill and graduated in 1951 with a Bachelors degree in Fine
Arts and subsequently completed the Famous Artists course. He later
became employed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base where he was an illustrator.
He retired in 1983. His passion was art. He was known for several paintings,
including a mural that hung at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base Museum
for twenty years commemorating the nation's bicentennial and the history
of flight. He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Marjorie (Dodson)
Race, two daughters and a son-in-law: Karen and John Frees of Columbus,
and Becky Holmes of Springfield, one son and daughter-in-law, Tim and
Lee Race of New York, N.Y., three sisters and a brothers-in-law: Mildred
Collignon of Chicago, Jean Willis of Springfield, Shirley and Richard
Downing of Englewood, brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Hentritta
Race of Michigan, eight grandchildren and spouses: Jonathan Weeks, Kathryn
and Ryan Tuleja, Jennifer and Stephen McIntosh, Amanda Holmes, Alex
Frees, Meredith Frees, Megan Race, and Kyla Race, one great-grandson,
Ryan Tuleja Jr., and several nieces and nephews. A gathering of family
and friends will be held on Friday, June 17, 2005 from 5-8 p.m. in the
LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. The service will be held on Saturday
at 10 a.m. in the Central United Methodist Church, 102 West High Street,
Springfield. Burial will be in the Ferncliff Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,
memorial contributions may be made to the Ross Heart Hospital Building
Fund 310673, c/o The Ohio State University Foundation, 709Fawcett
